Bin Thursday - 'Take 01'

And, because Thursday's are my favourite days, I thought I couldn't let this get me down. On top of it being rubbish day:

and

So, I decided to introduce you to:  Alfred and Hilda, some inhabitants of ours who were keen to leave our abode and embark on another adventure.

{What I didn't expect was the 'rubber-necking' that took place by cars passing by to have a look at what I was up to, ... It caused a little traffic jam!}

Have a goodie.

Continuing on from my previous post then...

I took this image in the interest of being a South African. This image reveals a world of information into who I am and who many South Africans are and who many will be because of  it's blueprint's existence.

I pose no views: polictical, religious, cultural or other.
How you read this image? It is entirely dependent on your experience, knowledge and understanding of a world from your view point.

However, for a moment in time this view has been presented to me, and I take the opportunity to view it.

Who am I?

We are all plagued with this question. Some embrace who they are and fit well into their identity others of us wish for another, some chose to remove the thought entirely or some, like me, feel a duality. There are many ways to approach this internal gnaw, each to their own for each is their own.

Sometimes I fit, sometimes I don't. Sometimes I see the beauty and wonder, sometimes I see only mundane and irrational negativities.

After writing a series of blogs and realising that it is easy to select a number of images that speak to me and share these on a daily basis I find that perhaps this is not me.

So then: Who am I? I found myself asking this question and realising that who you are, when there are so many external influences is a difficult question to answer.

Is, who I am, where I was born? ... well then I am a South African.
Is this where I choose to live? ... then I am a small towner in a sleepy village in England.
Where I work?...Then I am an insurance IT support person.
What I have done? ... Then I am a teacher, a carer, a tutor, a teller, a waitress.
What I choose to read about? ... Then I am a Scientist, Artist, Philosopher, Astronomer.
What I have studied? ... Then I am a Biochemist.
What I no loger do, but enjoy none-the-less? ... a diver, a golfer, an actress this list is almost endless.
What I choose to spend my time on? ... Then I am a runner, a photographer, a writer.
What I choose for me? ... then I am a creator, a fabricator for the witnesses of life.

My inspiration for this week then is a part of who I am: a South Afican.

Pieter Hugo's work, although I find it intriguing and thought provoking. In his work he uses his photography as a strory telling tool, he is a writer of image and for me he is also a creator and a fabricator provoking you to bear witness to a surrealism within a world that exists in our reality. But, if this world is unlike your existent world then at this point surrealism takes hold.

I come from a place and time where I have seen and experienced similarities in life and real world situations, which lean towards the surrealism within his work. However, his work reveals to me a part of me, gained from my life experience, that I wish to hide from and cover up and perhaps don't want to be a part of me. I no longer experience life's similarities to his images because I live elsewhere, in a different culture and a different society with different ways. But, it is still me and will always reside within me.

So who I am must start from where I come from, the surrealism lies in who I am not and that which I don't understand.

Weekly inspiration: Horst

Horst

The 'rate-of-change' in this 'day-and-age'.

My mind is in flight, but my soul feels trapped by the 'rate-of-change' and a need to stop and take a breath.

If I stop will I fall behind?

How I feel today:

'Wizardess' - Navy & Gold: a bit OTT, perhaps?

Today I had my first attempt at a colour 'Style Portfolio-tear sheet'.
My Colours were meant to be Navy and 'Gold' (photoshop doesn't do gold so well, unless it is a photograph), I managed to get waylayed, and went a bit OTT ... no surprise here!

My main inspiration was Alexander McQueen, along with a number of images from previous blogs, namely 'Floating and Flying Machines' and 'Scientist's Studios'

I do however like the theatrical, 'Wizardess', feel about this?

Humming Bird

I couldn't help myself I found this site called POLYVORE
and I just had to give it a go!
So it is Friday night I imagined I had arrived home and found out that I was being wisked out tomorrow night for a lavish evening of wining and dining all cheauffeur driven and that money for an evening wardrobe was no option on condition that I chose exactly what I wanted, this was what I would have chosen:

Betsey johnson dress
$398 - modcloth.com

Gio Goi coat
85 GBP - usc.co.uk

Christian Louboutin peep toe pumps
589 EUR - unger-fashion.com

Inge Christopher evening clutch
$112 - lorisshoes.com

Club Manhattan metal ring
16 EUR - welikefashion.com

Wool hat
$45 - reissonline.com

'Fun Friday' - Take 02

I took this in Yarmouth, these lovely Birds were waiting for the padestrian crossing lights to change to green.
And, we say youth of today?

What about the Aged today, hey?

Need I say more? Have a great weekend!

Thursday in Fridays clothing, a little addition to Fun Friday ...

I had such a rushed day yesterday and I was absolutely gutted that I had to miss my post!
Instead I will pretend that this post is for Thursday and I will post a 'Fun Friday' as well :)

Thursday is my favourite day, because I feel I have worked hard on Mon - Wed but I only have to get through Friday to be set free over the weekend to do exactly what I want to do! Big :)

So I looked up some images with links to Thursday's and these were the ones that caught my attention:

Hazy Thursday
by Oliver Smith

Never a dull moment with 'Pooh!'

I quite like this track and I would have never have found this if I hadn't looked up random Thursday tags? Lucky, NO?
(Not sure about the shouty bits, but each to their own, hey!)

Thursday: SAVED!

Tulle

What a wonderful thing!

Tuesday 15 March 2011

I noticed the contrast between 'White on White'.

I woke up this morning to a sea of fog engulfing everything around it I could just about see the road which is not even 2m away from my front door.

This reminded me of the Counting Crows song: Round Here, which starts with the opening line:
Step out the front door like a ghost into the fog
where no one notices the contrast between white on white.

This made me realise that many times I favour a bright and sunny day as being a beautiful day, but today was just as beautiful.

Selected, are a few images that remind me of this beauty:

Art Nouveau

Art Nouveau is on the forefront of my mind today, for a very special reason.
So I thought I would share some of the images that have sparked ideas for me,  with you:

Fun Friday - 'Take 01'

Wow, did she come whizzing past ... a speed fiend if ever I saw one. I think this granny (or 'gogo') knew something we certainly didn't, perhaps she knew the rain was on its way ...

Now you see her ...

O

Nothing much to say today really, so I have left an image instead:

Floating and Flying Machines

Instead of climbing into my car and whizzing myself off to work in the mornings. I sometimes imagine that instead: a puff of cloud would be waiting eagerly for me outside my front door. Then I would step gently into it and be floated away with my bag over my shoulder and and taken out shopping or exploring for the day.
On my first journey out I would visit these three artists and thank them for the little magic they provided me with today.

WTF

What a manic day, I feel like I have been pulled through a bush backwards.
For this reason I feel some comedy is in order! So Inspiration Tuesday provides, with my 3 absolute favourates, from the WTF collection designed by:

My Weekly Rotation

Imagine: if you could only have one painting on display a day, but you could have a weekly rotation, where each painting was allocated a specific day of the week.

Mean?

I know!

In realitly this would never work because there are so, so, so many fantastic images let alone paintings out there and I definately would never be able to afford my favourites and I am sure that in time my taste might change.

Never-the-less, I thought this might be something of interest to start the week.
So, here is my choice: ( I am sure I am going to kick myself when I realise all of the others I wanted to include too, but these must be my absolute favourites because I remembered them immediately!)

Monday

Giuseppe Arcimboldo

Monday's always need a little motivation so what better way to get the creative juices going than a little mind candy:

Tuesday

William Blake

Tuesdays seem to fly past and are a little under-rated. I have therefore chosen a powerful artist to remind me that Tuesday's are important too.

Wednesday

Wassily Kandinsky

What motivation for the middle of the working week!
I particularly like this one, why I know not ...

Thursday

Salvador Dalí

My favourite Artist for my favourite day of the week!

Friday

M. C. Escher

Friday's are pretty crazy so I would have to have something to mimic the day:

Not sure if this is a painting, but I couldn't go without an Escher!

Saturday

Hieronymus Bosch

I would have to continue the maddness into Saturday ...

Sunday

Gustav Klimt

My life would be incomplete, as would my week without a little goldand subdued maddness!
